James Anderson Memorial Rededicated

Retiree Andy Vaquera writes:

Several retirees get together for breakfast every Friday.
At one of the breakfast, I brought up the James Anderson
Memorial which now rests under the trees AND between
the restrooms at Anderson Park. As a 35 year Military
veteran, I advised them that the memorial sitting
between the restrooms was disrespectful.

After a short conversation we decided to get the Memorial
started and agreed to raise money(pitch in) every Friday
at Breakfast and in a little over three months we raised
$1600. Retiree Lalo Gutierrez contacted Airborne flags
who donated the pole and flag and we paid for the
installation (without the donation the flag would have cost
$3800).

On Sunday September 13,2009 we dedicated the Flag
and gathered at the park with our families for the
dedication and picnic. (At our age all the kids you see in
the pictures are our grandkids.) The flag sits on the banks
of Plum Creek Cove next to the boat ramp in an area we
decided to build the Anderson memorial to include the
names of all officers who died in the line of duty.

The following officers participated: Andy Vaquera, Marvin
Cannon, Joe Reyes, Louie Talamantes, Lloyd Lopez,
Ralph Campos, Jerry Vegas, Ponce Fuentes, Farris
Whitten (City Detention) Eli Vidaurri, David Perez (SAFD),
Mario Montemayor, Robert Carter, Ray Perez,
Richard Cervera, Rudy Barrera Curtis Sathoff, and
Lalo Gutierrez

PS:

The original memorial is still by the restrooms,
however we are raising funds to move it to the

area around the new flag pole. the plan is to

build a memorial plaza around the flag pole.

If anyone wishes to donate they can send it to
me: Andy Vaquera 1506 Oakcask 78253. Make
out check to James Anderson

Memorial Fund,.....thanks
