Is there a Secret Meeting of the Healthcare Fund?????

You may have received this email from one of our members:

“HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!
I just heard of an "Emergency Meeting" of the Healthcare
Fund for Monday, Sept. 22 at 9 am. , 300 Convent /
25th Floor.

I am told that among the proposals to be discussed will be
to raise our deductible from the $500 we currently pay
and to raise the out-of -pocket from the scheduled raise
in January. Another proposal is to sue to take the PIP
that we have in our homeowners and auto policies.

I understand the proposal is 35 pages long. There is a
scheduled monthly meeting of the Healthcare Fund
THE NEXT DAY!

I guess they want to have everything in place so they
don't have to notify the general membership about
anything. Please send this out to your mailing lists and
get as many people in there as possible. This will be at
the offices on Convent. Looks like they're taking a page
from Obamacare and try to ram this down our throats
before anyone knows what's happened.”

Our Health Care Fund Retiree Representatives
were
contacted for their response to this email/memo:

Jerry Clancy Retiree Rep (SAPD):

Thanks for forwarding the e-mail. The fact remains', there
is no secret meeting. We do have an ad hoc meeting posted
for Monday 9-21-2009 and our regular
monthly meeting has been scheduled since last February
for 9-22-2009.

No, there is no increase in our deductible and out of pocket
will be raised $100.00 annually as mandated by our health
care trust enabling statute of 2007.

Tell the troops there is no need to panic. Once again those
with no knowledge, are urinating in the wind in an attempt
to advance their own agenda.

Always,
Jerry Clancy

Response from Henry Trevino, Retiree Rep(SAFD):

Thanks for the heads up.
There is no truth to these rumors. The deductible is going
to stay the same. There is no anticipated increase now or
contemplated increase in the future on the deductible.

I don't know what they are talking about the "35 page
proposals". The Plan Document is about 65 pages long.
Most of the changes or alterations are just to clean
up the language and make it more readable. Some items
were moved from one page to another just to keep the
subject matter together.

We are still reviewing the document and fine tuning the
language and whatever small adjustments will be made.
I don't feel that there are any changes, as are mentioned
in the memo, that will be in the document. If adjustments
are made they will likely be in favor of our members.

Jerry and I know that our members are our prime
responsibility. We would never knowingly do anything
to harm our membership. You have my word on
this.

Thanks again,

Henry

Any comments, pass them along.

  1. I think this was very well handled by our board members. Rumors can be some bad stuff. I don't blame anyone being nervous for the way things are going. But, I found after forwarding some bad info, it's better to go to the source right away.

  2. Thanx to Jerry and Henry for keeping up with what goes on with the health fund. I'm sure a lot goes on there and they are always up on the latest information and misinformation coming from all over.
