Let me just say I'm confused.
Ms Sculley gets a pay increase of $20,000
this year plus $20,000 more in 2010;
$20,000 more in 2011 along with many hidden
extras and I get $2.74 a month COLA increase.
Now for the mayonnaise. Ms Sculley and her staff
now lead the charge to oppose a quarter of 1%
increase for fire and police officers who retired in
recent years.
Mr Mayor, did I miss something or just don't
understand the City of San Antonio's stimulus plan?
No wonder everybody at the gray mansion walks
around with painted hair and a smile
(or is it a smirk) on their face.
You would never had sided with the forces of evil
earlier in your life and here you are leading the
charge against retired public safety employees.
Shame, Shame.

UPDATE 1/31/09
The committee's action showed support for the
retiree’s position and their vote was to allow the
message to go forward.
This was a huge victory by our pension people,
Mr. Schott, the fund's ex director, Mike Helle and
Chris Steel and both police and fire PACs working
together on the issue all played a part in winning
the day.
I will say had all the parties not participated we would
have failed. Some of the council support did not come
easy but it did get them looking for a seat on the train.
The committee Chairperson was the last to come on
board. Cibrian was the first to help followed by
Cortez then Rowe and finally the Chairperson.

FOR THEIR VOTE ………………………..
Im not thrilled about it but we agreed to th way we get our raises, and at least we cannot be given a reduction like many people have suffered. The glass is half full not half empty.
ReplyDeleteChris
Jerry, Ray got a bigger COLA raise than you did - by 5 cents. This is an abomination - and our insurance increased by $16. This 1/4 of 1% you speak of is applicable to those who retired "in recent years" - just who exactly does "in recent years" refer to?
ReplyDeleteWe got a COLA increase???? More like a DIET COLA.
ReplyDeleteAnything Jerry does, does not surprise me in the least. He brings up a very good point: Take care of thyself and screw everyone that is left.
ReplyDeleteOf course the Mayor has to finish building the river walk so that all the land owners can make money off their land. Oh yeah, let's not forget the plaza in front of the San Fernando Cathedral. My brother-in-law,a well known designer and architect called the plaza, "an abortion of design". Remember somebody forgot to include the ramps for wheelchairs. This cost us additional money and the guy that made the mistake got a pat on the back; the kiosks seem to have been made for an ultra modernistic world; the Church is so clean and modern it looks like in belongs in a sterile operating room.
What a shame is right. Spending money like it was being printed.
It seems that the City leaders forgot what the City is known for; "it's Mexican flavor". The modernistic kiosks should have been made as in the old world, perhaps, with wood and thatched roofs. Small carts selling "raspa, tacos and boiled corn on the cob". I think something like that would have given the plaza a Mexican flavor.
Around the time of "Hemisphere" the City put up a small ;sign about the size of a street sign that read, "Centrum". It had an arrow and it pointed towards town, down Commerce street. Of course "Centrum" means "Center" or "Centro" in Latin. The Spanish folks would say, and they still do, "vamos al Centro". I haven't seen any gladiators in San Antonio that would have to be shown the way to, "El Centro", have you???????
Anyway a whole lot of money was spent for a few nonworking people to sit around and spend the day talking about what it used to be like. Of course the money on the extension of the river walk could have been used on something other then making a few land owners rich.
Sorry I took up so much of your time. Its just that you gave me an opportunity to vent and also to agree and expound on Jerry's dissertation.
You can share this if you like.
Until,
Henry
Can you imagine? For the amount of pay she’s getting, Scully has two Deputy City Managers and one Assistants City Mgr. Too much for one person with a staff of highly paid individuals.
ReplyDeleteGo Jerry! YOu are my fave Irish Pit Bull, we will be emailing and calling the City counsel to let them know we are out here....I agree I would like to know who constitutes "recent retirees?"
