Gerald Spear "Jerry" Connell, Jr.- Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother entered into rest on April 3, 2009 at the age of 77. Jerry was born in San Antonio on February 7, 1932 to Gerald S. Connell, Sr. and Gladys Whitley Connell.
Jerry was known as one of "San Antonio's Finest". He was a San Antonio Police Officer for 13 years, and was later elected Constable of Precinct 2, where he served the community for 22 years. He loved the community in which he worked and was proud to have served.
In Jerry's younger years he was a talented magician, taking his magic show to cities and towns around Texas. He was also a member of the Projectionist' Union. Jerry's passion for music led him to play bass guitar in a country band for many years and put him in contact with many country singers with whom he forged relationships over the years. His love for music led him to collect all types of music -from Opera to Country. His collection contains almost 400,000 recordings. His wish is to donate the collection to Texas A&M's music department.
Jerry's outgoing personality, his love for his family and friends, and his zest for adventure will be remembered by all whom he knew. His passing will leave a void in the hearts of many. Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years Joan Slavin Connell, son Gerald S. Connell III and Ex-wife Deborah Connell, daughter Gretchen Allen and husband Tony Allen, sisters Gayle Olenick, Gloria Weiss and husband Roger Weiss, sisters-in-law Alberta Alexander, Susie Slavin, June Deiser and husband Dale Deiser, brother-in-law Donald Slavin, and 4 grandchildren, Ashley Connell, Gerald Connell IV, Johnny Connell, and Amy Connell.
SERVICES
Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Chapel Service at 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park North.
