New health benefits take effect January 1, 2008.

Just a reminder that our new health benefits become effective January 1, 2008. Should you need any assistance please do not hesitate to call the Health Care Trust Fund (HCT) at (210) 220 - 1385.

I would like to thank the Fund's executive director and staff who assisted in the presentations to fire and police retirees at 6 scheduled meetings held over a three week time period.

When all is said and done the new deductible and out of pocket changes along with mail order prescriptions for maintenance drugs will go a long way to have the Trust Fund reach actuarial soundness. Yes, we were promised more, but so were those still working (active) and those who have yet to come on board.

Once you see the big picture, it's easy to realize that those who are still working (actives) would have no incentive to keeping a proper funding level for a benefit they would never realize.

In closing with the health care benefits now in state statue we will have a place to defend our benefits. Yes, we will have to do it in Austin, but it will not be bargained away without our being allowed at the table.

Ever felt like joining a union, you should, as we all need to stay together or practice saying "good day welcome to Wal-Mart."

P.S. I forgot to remind everyone they will have to fill out 2008 claim forms and send them to Health Care Trust Fund (HCT). One for the retiree and one for the spouse along with any minors being carried under COBRA.
