THE CHECK IS IN THE MAIL by Michael Trainer

I attended the regular monthly meeting of the Fire and Police Pension Fund Board today the 30^th of October 2007. Below are my remarks about the meeting.

The Fire and Police Pension Board approved the payment of a 13^th and 14^th check to current members. The 13^th check will be paid on November 9^th and the 14^th check will be paid on the 16^th. The checks will be sent by the same method as your regular monthly pension check. The vote to provide these checks was unanimous. There were a lot of positive comments by members of the Board. Many of our fellow retirees attended the meeting. Several retirees praised the Board, past and present, for their work in protecting our pension.

Other Action:

Art Hall, a past City Council member, was sworn in to his position on the Fire and Police Pension Board. He is the Mayoral designate. Mr. Hall is also a past Chairman of the Fire and Police Pension Board. He will provide guidance, wisdom and common sense to the Board on our behalf. Yes he is a City appointee but he is a great asset to our fund.

State Senator Jeff Wentworth and State Representative Ruth Jones McClendon were honored by the Board. Without the help of these two members of the Texas Legislature our Pension and Prepaid Health Care bills would not have passed the Legislature! The recognition of both was well deserved.

We must say thanks to the Pension Staff and the Board for fast approval of the beneficiary pensions for the family members of Detective Investigator Mario Moreno, God Bless his soul and God Bless his family!
