The 5 Star Life Insurance program keeps turning up little
surprises.
When it was first offered to us, both the employee and his
or her spouse was also eligible. Many of us purchase the
insurance for both and paid the premiums for both. As it
turns out now, when G P Graham Capital Management or
Alex Perez, Jr. dropped the Standard Life in favor of the
5 Star, 5 Star refused to cover the spouses, therefore, all
this time that we have thought we were insured, we were not.
When 5 Star sent the recent letter out asking for back
premiums in order to continue the coverage on the retiree,
they were counting on the fact that the payment of the back
premiums would be cost prohibitive for most retirees. The
last time I spoke with Michael Graham, he told me that all
the retirees, except Ray and me, had elected not to continue
the coverage because they could not or did not wish to pay
the back premiums.
The premiums, I might add, that were screwed up by
Graham, 5 Star and Alex Perez. Therefore, you are being
punished for their inefficiency and I have a problem with that.
If you are a retiree whose health is good and who can seek
other insurance, that is what I would do. However, if you are
a retiree with health issues precluding you from taking out
any other insurance at all, then, if you can afford it at all, I
recommend that you pay the back premiums. Some
insurance is better than none at all. Additionally, several
officers have expressed an interest in pursuing an action
against the insurance company, the broker, etc.
It is certainly worth looking into.
If you might be interested in doing the same, please contact
me and I will share the information I have with you. Those of
you who know me, know what my feelings are about this
situation and who is ultimately responsible for this mess.
I don’t intend to let it slide. I have given Graham, Perez,
5 Star and others ample opportunity to make us whole,
I’m not playing anymore. Best wishes to all of you.
