Risking their lives for others, coming to the aid of strangers...
31 people were honored at SAPD's annual awards ceremony.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus handed
out the awards to publicly honor those who've gone above and beyond.
Among those honored were Roman Roman who helped
police apprehend two very active car burglars. Roman
stayed up all night and called police when he saw the
burglars return to the neighborhood and start
breaking into cars.
Also honored were retired officers George Ramirez
and William Ewell. In 1969 Ramirez went to make
an arrest and was shot twice When Ewell arrive at the
scene, he rushed to Ramirez' aid and shot and killed
the suspect.
"Every person who becomes a police officer know
this can happen," said Ramirez.
Police Chief McManus explained, "Some of the officers
were never recognized as they were brought to our
attention we went back and researched and give them
the award that they should have received a long time ago."
"To see that I was remembered it means a lot," said Ramirez.
