Wondra, Melvin D.

Melvin D. Wondra, born 7-31-32 in Brainard, Nebraska to William & Klatilda Wondra, died June 27, 2007. He was preceded in death by both parents and by his wife of 38 years on Sept. 21, 1990, Mildred (Millie). He joined the Air Force in 1952 and served until 1956, during this time while stationed in San Antonio, he met and married his wife. After being discharged, he moved back to SA and joined the SA Police Force where he worked for 36 yrs, retiring Valentine's Day, 1992. He moved to Rancho Nueces, a small ranch in SW Bexar County, where he raised many different waterfowl, swans, pheasants, barbado sheep and mini-donkeys, along with his Catahoula dogs, DixieDoo and Trooper and cats Latte and Aries. During this time he also had over 250 hives of bees and extracted 12,000 lbs. of honey. He leaves one brother, Billy Dean Wondra; sons Buddy Wondra Jr. and Karen Wondra and John Robert Wondra; his very close and personal friends, Barbara A. Mains and Jeffrey R. Mains; his grandchildren, Lauren J.; Susan K.; John N.; Brian T.; and Sarah M. Wondra, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins in the Czech Republic, where he traveled for many years. He spoke Czech, Slovak, some Polish, Ukraine and Russian. He was a member of St. Luke's Mens Club and the Bexar County Czech Society. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Name Catholic Church. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to one's choice.
