Mother of Fallen Officer passes away.

Juanita (Janie) Rivera Garza passed away on Saturday,
September 12, 2009 surrounded by family and dear friends.

She was born in Orange Grove, Texas to Clara and Refugio
Rivera on February 14, 1925. She was preceded in death
by her son, Officer Hector Garza (S.A. P.D.), her parents
and numerous brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Garza is survived by her husband of 64 years,
Reynaldo S. Garza, their children, Virginia Garza-Craig
and husband, Kenneth and Reynaldo Garza Jr. and wife,
Terri. Mrs. Garza is also survived by seven
grandchildren, William C. Garza, Michelle Ramirez and
husband, Pablo, Rebecca Garza, Hector (Troy) Garza Jr.,
Nicole Lopez and husband Lino, Jason Garza, Melissa
Garza and seven great-grandchildren, Isabel, Maribel,
Pablo, Cody, Brianna, Kyrick and Rene with another
great-grandson due in November.

Mrs. Garza was very active in the upbringing of her
children, their schools, her church and the community.
Following the death of her son, Hector in 2001, the
family started the annual tradition of having a Christmas
Open House for policemen, city and county officials and
friends, as a thank you for the help and support given to
the family. Her home was always open to everyone that
came to visit. Family and friends have many fond memories
sitting at her kitchen table laughing, eating and drinking
coffee over good conversation.

Visitation will take place from 4-9:00 p.m. with a rosary
to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009
at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home Chapel. There will be
a departure at 10:30 a.m. for an 11:00 a.m. mass
Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church with Rev. Walter D'heedene celebrant. Interment
will follow to San Fernando Cemetery #2.
